Halloween Outfit: Sailor!

So, I thought I would share my Halloween costume from this year. I was a sailor! I actually kind of threw it together once I found the hat at Target. I already had the dress and shoes, so all I really went out and bought were the hat and knee socks. Thrifty! I know!! All of my Halloween costumes usually come from what I find at thrift stores and around the house, and they never cost more then $10. Halloween stores are just such a rip off and I refuse to spend that much on a costume I will only wear once (plus they are usually way too tacky or slutty for my taste)! I never went trick or treating as a child so I find an extra amount of fun in dressing up each year. So far I have been, Snow White, a Native American Indian, a doll, and of course, a sailor! I 'll show those pictures some time (the doll was my personal favorite so far). Anyways, here's my outfit and where I got everything, enjoy!!

Crush, Crush, Crush!

Oh my goodness, I am in love with Gregory Peck! He has got to be one of the best, most dreamy (which is always important) actors ever. He may be best known for his portrayal of Atticus Finch in To Kill a Mocking Bird, but my favorite character he ever played was Dr.Edwardes in Alfred Hitchcock's Spellbound. He was probably at his peek of dreaminess and of course did a phenomenal job playing that role as well. Now I will never let go of my love for adorable little Cary Grant, but Mr. Peck is def. trying to push him out of first place!

Typography

Oh my goodness this is bad I have not blogged in more then a week! We'll let me show you one of the things I have been working on... For Typography class I had to create a poster portraying a historically important figure in Typographic history. I choose John Baskerville because I really love his font (also called Baskerville). It is a super classic, beautiful type face, and I love it! For my poster I wanted to create images that were similar to the metal type used in old printing presses. Inside I put his name (in his own font) and and the bottom I put the name of his type face. Which is ironically the same thing (or not so ironically...), but I still like how it looks together. I actually enjoyed this project and really hope I get a good grade, fingers crossed!! Anyway, here is the final product...

P.S. How cute is the new design Anthropologie has done to their website, the bookstore is my favorite, check it out...

Cath Kidston: Free Wallpaper

Does anyone else love Cath Kidston as much as I do?! I am completely obsessed with her floral patterns!! Cath Kidston is the founder and owner of this amazing shop based out of the UK. She has amazing floral everything and I seriously could buy every single thing she creates! (I would love to get one of her messenger bags one of these days). Thanks to the internet us US residents can order some of her great stuff, only catch is the extra cost to get our orders across the pond (and the exchange rate kills me too). One day I will bite the bullet and just order something. But until then at least my desktop can sport some of Cath's adorable prints. You can actually grab some free desktop backgrounds right from her site! Just click HERE.

Type Project: Self Portrait

I have finished my first project of the semester! Thank God!! It was for type class. We had to first pick a font that described us as person. I picked Tuna and Hot Dogs on Rye from Dafont because it was cutsie and fun. I hope that describes me... I also loveeeed that it had swirls in it. Like I said before I am OBSESSED with swirls. Next we had to pick a picture of ourselves to work from. I picked the one below because I wanted a picture where my hair was curly, and I liked that my eyes were closed (didn't have to tackle the eyes then... sneaky, I know). Finally we had to create a self portrait out of the type we had chosen, using only the letters in our name. I guess it wasn't too bad... It did take a little bit of time because I have not completely mastered Illustrator yet, but I am getting there! Of course I played up my curly hair with the giant swirls, which is probably my favorite part.

The Brown Owl Goes to Sea

OK guys, I officially have a new obsession, model ships! Maybe I should rename the blog "The Brown Owl Goes to Sea" OHHH, I kind of like that! I guess you can say this all started when I thrifted that awesome model ship not too long ago. I really have always loved ships, especially drawing them. Possibly because I really like drawing waves, tons and tons of swirls everywhere! Swirls are kind of my thing, my artwork and designs are filled with them. I also love ships because I think they feel kind of magical. Maybe I have watched Peter Pan one too many times, but I always imagine them as ways of getting to any wonderful, magical place you could want to visit. Maybe that sounds silly, but either way I am completely in love with these beautiful "magical" vessels!

Of Headbands and Sketching

Breaking news: I got a new headband! OK, so not so breaking news, but I thought I would do more of an original post because I am usually just telling you all about other people and their lives/creations and not my own. I got this headband on sale at Urban yesterday, which is kind of funny because I make headbands for a living. Butttt sometimes I like other people's creations too and I can only wear my flower headbands so many times a week. I start school again tomorrow which I almost can not believe, summer went so fast... I am semi excited but I am sure that will wear off once I have 4 projects due on the same day. At least I will be back to drawing. It is kind of sad but when I am out of school I do a lot less sketching. I think because it is forced upon me all year, it makes it seem a little like a chore and I need a break. That sounds completely terrible, I really do love drawing... Anyways, sorry these pictures are so ridiculous, I guess once that little green light goes on I some how think I am trying out for the next cycle of America's Next Top Model, "I am not here to make friends!!!" Ohhh Photobooth...

P.S. I haven't shared any music in a while, I have been listening to this song on repeat lately, I really want to see Eat Pray Love soon :)

Fred Flare, Vintage Clothes, and Empire of the Sun

Hey guys, life has been busy as usual. Summer classes just ended so I have one whole month off before school starts again!! I am going to try to work as much as I can on making tons of stuff for the shop. I am also selling all of my vintage clothes. I went through a phase in high school when I went vintage clothes hunting almost every week and because of this I have accumulated much too many of them!! They must all go!! Plus I need to save up for my camera and hopefully this will help with that little fund. I will be selling them on Etsy very soon! I of course will let you know when the shop officially opens. On a side note I just downloaded the trial for Photoshop CS5 and I really like it!! I have been working on creating and editing stuff like crazy because I need to squeeze it all in before my trial runs out! As far as the blog goes I am going to try to keep it up as much as possible! I really do enjoy sharing all of the things that I find throughout my day! You know when you get that feeling of "Oh my goodness this is the cutest/coolest/most amazing thing ever I just want to tell someone about it!" Well, my mom is really not that interested in what cool thing they just got in at Fred Flare sooo putting it on the blog is my way of telling someone! haha

Speaking of Fred Flare, I just have to say how awesome the internet is. Remember when it took 3 weeks on the midnight express to get a letter to someone?? Ok maybe you don't, I don't either but we have heard the stories. Well, it amazes me how not only can you send someone a letter or thought instantly but you have access to so many more people, and can make connections you would have never made without the internet. For instance, I put this picture of me up on twitter wearing some Fred Flare sunglasses I just got, and tagged them in the post and much to my surprise they replied on their twitter. I know this sounds so stupid but it totally made my day!! That may be a bad example of what I was talking about but, you get the basic idea.

Alright, I will stop gabbing, I don't usually write this much!! Partially because I am such a visual person. Pictures get the message across much better than words for me. I actually rarely read what people write on their blogs I just look at the pictures. Isn't that terrible!! I guess I should start reading them more! There are just so many I don't have time for the words...

Here's the picture I put up in my Fred Flare glasses!!

And here is what they wrote!! OMG I am such a dork!!

And just for fun here is a look at my desktop! Isn't that thee cutest thing ever?!! I wish I could find the artist who did it!!

And finally, this song has been stuckkk in my head, in the best way of course. And yes, I am aware of how weird this video is! But I just love the song!!
